For 2007, we've had the honor of serving as the "ambassador family" for the Dallas chapter of the March of Dimes.
Basically, we got to go around sharing our story.
We thought it would be fun to use this page as an online scrapbook. So below you will find photos from our various speaking engagements, along with a few details of each.
As much as we enjoyed sharing our story and inspiring others, the highlight was standing on stage for the start of WalkAmerica and seeing 25,000 people ready to Save Babies! Click here for more on that big day.
Sept. 28: "God Bless America" ... and March of Dimes volunteers
Jake and Josh were the closing act of the annual statewide Volunteer Recognition Luncheon. Jake sang "God Bless America," with accompanyment from Josh, aka Uncle Sam (although we told him he was "Captain America" because that sounds a lot cooler to a 5-year-old!) Josh's frown, by the way, was just part of his serious face before he went on stage. A happier look is just below. Better yet, click here for more details!

Aug. 10: ACE Cash Express
We were invited to make a return visit to the ACE Cash Express headquarters to help accept the company's huuuuuuge donation to the March of Dimes: $584,936.26.

April 11: Garland ISD BBQ
Our friends in Garland, who hosted our very first function (scroll all the way down), invited us back out to take part in a BBQ contest between three mayors and the school superintendent. All we had to do was eat and enjoy! While the kids, including Zac's pal Raef, got to play on the bounce houses, Lori & Jaime were judges in the contest. Yummy, yummy.
April 4: TV interview for "Positively Texas"
We were filmed on a Wednesday for a show that aired on Saturday and Sunday. Some fun, silly, behind-the-scenes photos are available on our TV appearances page.
March 21: Pediatrix
While we appreciate every offer to speak, this one had extra meaning for us because it was with the medical group whose doctors made all this possible. Our NICU doctors at Medical City are part of the Pediatrix family, so even though they weren't there we still felt quite a bond -- so much that Lori made her debut as a speech-giver while Jaime was at the NCAA basketball tournament in San Antonio.
March 13: LOBBY DAY in Austin!!!
We were among about 200 March of Dimes folks lobbying state lawmakers to help make sure all babies are born healthy. The boys' footprints and their story were included as part of the thank-you gift given to all legislators that everyone met with. We met with staffers for state Rep. Will Hartnett and state Sen. John Carona. Another legislator, state Rep. Helen Giddings, asked to meet the boys behind those footprints, so we went to her office to say hello; our family photo found below was taken in her office.
(This turned out to be the final picture of Zac in his braces -- they came off the next day.)
March 10: Alpha Phi Alpha
The brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha have been loyal walkers. Our visit was aimed to get even more support from the group. Our speech came during a meeting at the World Trade Center; the fountain made for a nice backdrop to this shot.
March 9: Bank of America
We went to one of the highest points in town (the 69th floor of the Bank of America tower) to help fire up a group that doesn't need much encouragement -- Bank of America was the No. 1 fund-raiser among corporate teams last year! These shots are from afterward, when Jake, Josh & Zac had fun in the empty ballroom.
Feb. 28: Double-header of Parkland Hospital and AIG
We started a new tradition of letting Jake & Josh pass out our business cards during the speech, and Jake certainly enjoyed it! At Parkland (where their carnival-themed meeting was a BIG hit with the boys), Jake told one woman who requested another for a friend, "No! Everybody only gets one!" At AIG, Josh wasn't too into his chore, so Jake gleefully handled the whole room himself -- going back for seconds, not with business cards, but with stickers he'd brought along.
Feb. 15: Luby's
We got to share our story with regional managers of Luby's cafeterias. We were especially pleased to speak to them because last year -- and this year -- Luby's sponsors the Family Teams, which is how we began our involvement with the March of Dimes.
Feb. 13: Jenkens & Gilchrist
A morning meeting at a law firm left Josh in a, um, interesting mood, as you see below:
Feb. 8: Kickoff Breakfast
With more than 800 people filling a ballroom at the Westin Galleria, our speech featured some extra entertainment: Jake and Josh on the microphone. Josh was in Jaime's arms when he realized he could swoop down and holler into it and be heard by everyone. So, of course, Jake calmored to do the same. Oh well; kids will be kids!
Part of the ceremony was recognizing the folks who raised $2.8 million at last year's WalkAmerica and challenging everyone to crack this year's goal of $3 million. We were among those honored for helping toward the goal, receiving a trophy for our work with the Family Teams. That is what Lori is holding in the photo below.
Here's a shot of Jake and the microphone (after the event, of course!)
Jan. 30: Garland ISD (Our first one!)
On Tuesday, Jan. 30, we had the privilege of being in Garland for a special event featuring the school district that raised the most money for WalkAmerica last year among all school districts in the nation. WOW! They raised a whopping $115,000.
